Who am I? Why am I Writing this Blog about the Bass?

My name is Holly Reinhardt, I am a jazz and classical Double Bass player, member of Tomorrows Warriors, National Youth Orchestra and currently studying at Junior Royal Academy.

I am someone who is very passionate about the double bass because of the versatility of the instrument. Many people have asked me ‘why bass?’, and even so I may ask my self the same question travelling on public transport, there is nothing that can recreate the feeling of the vibrations travel throughout your body as you pluck an open string. Although the double bass is the rock of an orchestra or a jazz group it can be a beautifully melodic instrument, with a wide range of mostly unexplored solo repertoire.

I have only been able to explore what the bass can do through the inspiration my teacher has shown me, and the opportunities that come with going to a music school. Many young bass players, like my self, don’t know that you can perform in an only bass quartet, or you can perform a solo bass concerto. I came up with the idea for this blog with the thought, “How do I create a way for more people to know about the amazing things people do on the bass”. Using this as a great experience for myself to learn and talk to some amazing bass players, I hope everyone reading will enjoy reading about these amazing musicians.
