Lynn Hannings is a world renowned bow maker, making bows - especially bass bows - in her studio since 1970. Yet she is also a professional bass player, playing in the Portland Symphony orchestra. She won the Lutherie Prize from the International Society of Bassists for her bass bows in 2011. Hannings is also very passionate about making sure instruments are sustainable, the very reason she decided to start bow making. I have thoroughly enjoyed interviewing Lynn Hannings and think she is a great addition to the blog, as I have never interviewed a luthier.

Robert Nairn is an Australian Historical bass player who has lived and worked in Germany, England, Australia and the US. He is a Distinguished Professor of Music at Penn State’s School of Music and on the Faculty of The Juilliard School in New York. Commissioning over 40 new works for solo bass and chamber groups, he has made a real impact on the bass world.

Luke Belcher is a Somerset based Jazz bass player I have had the pleasure of meeting. He is a local and very talented musician to me, and the first jazz bass player I have interviewed.

Gnars Upatnieks is a Latvian bass player, and a member of the famous Berlin Philharmonic. He has had a very successful career of orchestral playing and solo playing. Throughout the years he has been principal in the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, assistant principal in the Bergen Philharmonic and a member of the Berlin Philharmonic.

David Heyes is an English double bass composer and soloist who has commissioned over 700 pieces for the double bass. He has performed and taught in 20 different countries over the years, some multiple times. As well as being a featured composer at many festivals, his music has been played in over 28 countries. With a determination to change the bass world, he set up his own publishing company, Recital Music - with an aim to make unknown bass music more accessible for bass players.

Dritan Gani is an Albanian bass player, living in Turkey, of the 21st Century. He has performed many different concerts and festivals in many countries over the years. He teaches, conducts string orchestras, gives recitals and takes place in many orchestral festivals - as well as being a member of the European society of bassists.

Simon Garcia, born in 1977 in Mugardos, is a Spanish bass player and composer - one of the most successful bass composers of the 21st century. He is a member of the BMMC which has led to him gaining a renowned reputation from different orchestras, soloists and ensembles. When someone whose compositions have been played in 38 countries across 4 different continents and had more than 50 works published by Recital Music, it's safe to say they are most definitely well known internationally.
